last day of preschool

Sonia wasn't excited about having her photo taken after her last day of school, so this is more of a "what she wore" post. Tutu, sweatpants and moccasins. Her style is authentic.

being centered

“I’m not telling you to make the world better, because I don’t think that progress is necessarily part of the package, I’m just telling you to live in it. Not just to endure it, not just to suffer it, not just to pass through it, but to live in it. To look at it. To try to get the picture. To live recklessly. To take chances. To make your own work and take pride in it. To seize the moment. And if you ask me why you should bother to do that, I could tell you that the grave’s a fine and private place, but none I think do there embrace. Nor do they sing there, or write, or argue, or see the tidal bore on the Amazon, or touch their children. And that’s what there is to do and get it while you can and good luck at it.”

--Joan Didion,
in a commencement address at the University of California, Riverside,
in 1975.

p.s. Mila slept from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. this morning. Six hours never felt so good.

Mother's Day

Mila was blessed to meet her Great-Grandma Tickner on Mother's Day. They enjoyed each other quite a bit.

grandma and her ladies

Our wonderful friend and midwife, Laurel, stopped over to pay a visit today. We are so blessed to have had Laurel assist us in the birth of both Sonia and Mila. We've pulled her from a movie (Sonia) and from her early morning swim (Mila) and we couldn't be happier that she was able to experience these wonderful moments with us.

last day of law school

After three long years of law school, Papa took his last law school exam today. He celebrated by holding Mila for the entire day. We are so proud of his accomplishment! He has spent many hours working and studying - during the first five days of Mila's life alone, Papa has written a paper, completed an oral argument and taken two final exams. Tonight we celebrate as a family of four!
