a perfect weekend

This was an absolutely perfect weekend - beautiful weather; great friends; happy and inquisitive baby; good food; and lots of love.

Friday night we saw the wonderful new work of our good friend Daniel Mason and had the honor of catching up with Auntie Kara from NYC. Sonia was on her best behavior and slept peacefully, waking long enough to show off her beautiful eyes before falling back to sleep.

Sonia cheered her papa on at her first soccer game on Saturday evening. She stayed awake for all of the first half and most of the second, and thanks to the hours of international soccer her papa has exposed her to via Fox Soccer Channel, she seemed to have a deep understanding of the game. Watch out Mia Hamm!

This morning we started the day off bright and early with a walk to the Farmers' Market, our favorite spot in the city. We indulged ourselves with our usual - Bratwurst and limeade - the breakfast of champions.

Sonia's personality really flourished this weekend. She has started to forge a sleep routine for herself that is working quite well. She's also beginning to find her voice, and spent 10 minutes after her shower tonight cooing, singing and being adorable.

Tomorrow starts another week. I can't wait to see the changes that unfold.

firsts

We try to document all of Sonia's "firsts" in her baby journal. Well, scratch that, we blog about them on her virtual baby journal - right here on kimonobaby - since I haven't quit started her baby journal yet. So far it has one page filled out - her name. But darn if it isn't a nice looking name!

So in keeping with the spirit and authenticity of this blog, it's only fair that we share all of her firsts - her first walk, her first smile, her first bottle, etcetera. Last night we had another first. No, she did not sleep through the night (although she did have a nice five hour stretch). No, tonight was the first time that she woke up on the cold, unforgiving, concrete floor of our apartment. Yes, you heard me. She woke up with her *face* on the concrete floor. And she wasn't even crying. We put her to sleep in her bouncy chair last night since that is where she sleeps the best (probably because she can see what's going on - god forbid she miss out on something fun!), and somewhere between 3:30 and 5 a.m she jiggled her way down and off the chair. Luckily, she brought her thick and cushy lambskin rug with her all the way down, creating a comfortable slide. And she never cried. I woke up to some grunting sounds. She didn't seem too concerned with being on the floor. And it gets worse. How can it get worse, you ask? Well, my first instinct was not to pick her up, but to take a picture of it. You know, to post on the blog. I didn't. I picked her up.

Mental note. Time to strap baby in.

::proof that she is, indeed, okay.::

legal

Her social security card came in the mail today, so we don't have to worry about the INS coming after her.

daddy day

Today was a daddy day. In the morning, Sonia and her papa went to the Farmers' Market all by themselves (with Tyler). When they returned Papa gave Sonia her first full bottle of mama's milk. She sucked the whole thing down without a peep.

In the afternoon we went for a walk and Sonia rode in her Baby Bjorn facing forward, like a big girl (check out those neck muscles)!

two-for-one thursday

bionic baby

video

This video is crazy. I mean, I think it's crazy, isn't it? Do other babies display such strength at six weeks? I'm no baby expert, but this certainly doesn't seem normal. No, just the opposite. And, the video doesn't really start from the beginning. She started off very much in the center of the Boppy.

a very good day

Today is kimonomama's 26th birthday. 26 years. I couldn't have had a better day. We had a wonderful breakfast at my favorite French Meadow Bakery. We sat outside, enjoying great coffee and delicious food, a crisp fall breeze and a warm fall sun. We went to the Walker Art Center to see the "Picasso and American Art" exhibit while Sonia slept in her papa's arms. In the evening we went to a friendly little party at Auntie Kennedy's place where Sonia was passed around before falling asleep.

If today was any indication, this is going to be a very special year.
